Client Spotlight: MK Loft Boarding

Loft boarding is one of the most popular home improvements in the UK. With energy costs rising and homes needing more storage, millions of homeowners rely on their lofts for both insulation and usable space.

But what most people don’t see is what sits underneath the boards. Many lofts have uneven joists, different insulation depths, and outdated support systems that make it hard to install boards properly without compressing insulation or wasting time on site.

MK Loft Boarding sees these problems every day. As specialist installers, they know that existing loft leg systems often don’t match real-world loft conditions, leading to slower installs, inconsistency, and avoidable mistakes.

The ALLOFTS project brings together MK Loft Boarding and Allofts (Adjustable Loft Leg) to change that, developing a smarter, installer-led system designed to make loft boarding faster, more consistent, and more compliant.

Why This Project Exists

Most loft boarding systems on the market were designed years ago, before today’s insulation depths became the norm. Installers are often forced to work around rigid components that don’t account for uneven joists or thicker insulation, leading to time-consuming adjustments on site.

When insulation is compressed to “make things fit,” its effectiveness drops. That can reduce energy efficiency, increase heating costs, and undermine the very reason many homeowners invest in loft upgrades in the first place.

ALLOFTS exists to remove these compromises. The goal is to create a system that adapts to the loft... not the other way around. One that helps installers work faster and more accurately, while protecting insulation performance and delivering better outcomes for homeowners.

Why We’re Involved

At Inond, we help turn real-world problems into practical, scalable solutions. This project stood out because it starts with people who live the problem every day.

MK Loft Boarding isn’t working from assumptions or theory. Their insight comes from hundreds of real installations, across all types of homes and loft conditions. That makes this project different from traditional product development, where decisions are often made far from the job site.

Our role is to help shape that experience into a robust product, combining design, engineering, and commercial thinking to ensure ALLOFTS doesn’t just work well, but can be manufactured, sold, and adopted at scale.

What the ALLOFTS Project Is About

The ALLOFTS project is focused on creating a simple, reliable loft boarding system that works with real-world loft conditions. At its core is an adjustable loft leg designed to fit different insulation depths and joist heights, helping installers achieve a level, consistent floor without guesswork.

The system is shaped by real installer experience, with MK Loft Boarding influencing everything from how it adjusts and fixes in place to how it’s packaged and handled on site. This ensures it fits naturally into existing workflows without the need for specialist tools or new training.

Behind the scenes, the product is being carefully engineered and prototyped to balance strength, ease of use, and cost-effective manufacturing. It’s designed to support insulation performance, meet compliance expectations, and give installers and trade partners confidence through clear testing and documentation.

Allofts is being developed as a standalone product brand, backed by MK Loft Boarding’s expertise, with routes to market that include direct-to-installer sales, trade supply, and industry partnerships.

Where the Project Is At

The project has now moved beyond ideas and into structured product development.

The team has clearly defined the problem, validated the need with real installers, and established the core design principles of the ALLOFTS system. Early prototypes have been built and reviewed, and manufacturing considerations such as tooling, materials, and cost have been explored early to avoid unnecessary complexity later.

There is strong alignment between MK Loft Boarding’s operational needs and Allofts’ long-term potential as a product. With a clear direction, a defined user, and solid technical foundations in place, the next steps focus on further testing, refining the design for manufacture, completing compliance work, and finalising the route to market.
